Artist Statement Last Semester I had the amazing opportunity to take Sculpture 1 and learn a few different techniques when working with clay and I have been able to use those techniques this semester while taking Ceramics 1. Ceramics has been a type of art that I never thought I would be trying out, but after my first semester in Sculpture I decided to step out of my comfort zone and was incredibly grateful that I did thanks to the help of Ms. Sanyour and my classmates. My art collection is titled Fruity Platters because all of my pieces are inspired by different fruits and are all tied together with their bright colors. My first piece was a wheel thrown plate inspired by an orange and painted with glaze. My second piece was a wheel thrown vase with an asymmetrical neck painted as a pineapple. And lastly I made a wheel thrown bowl inspired by a watermelon. When given the task to create a collection of work that was tied together in some way I immediately wanted to experiment with colors and how to work with glaze. I had a few ups and downs when figuring out how to control the different types of glazes and how they would mix and melt on my pieces, but at the end I was able to understand how they layered and moved when in the kiln which led me to my finished collection of art. I hope you have a wonderful time looking at my pieces and enjoy them as much as I do.
